The 1.7 million square-feet campus named Google Hudson Square is going to be the principal place for the company's New York-based Global Business Organisation. Based on Ruth Porat, Senior Vice President and CFO of both its parent firm Alphabet and Google, once the building is complete, it hopes to begin moving into the two Hudson Street buildings followed by 550 Washington Street at 2022.

"When we came to New York City nearly two years ago, it had been our very first office outside of California. It is now home to over 7,000 employees, speaking 50 languages, focusing on a wide assortment of teams such as Search, Advertising, Maps, YouTube, Cloud, Technical Infrastructure, Sales, Partnerships and Research," Porat said in a statement. Before this year, Google announced the $2.4 billion buy of this Manhattan Chelsea Market and shared strategies to lease extra space at Pier 57 in town where it arrived in the year 2000.

Since 2011, Google has contributed over $150 million in grants and employee-matched contributing to New York institutions. "With these latest investments at Google Chelsea and Google Hudson Square, we'll have the potential to more than double the amount of Googlers in New York within the next ten decades," said Porat. Google is growing outside the Bay Area and has opened offices and information centres in locations like Los Angeles, Boulder, Detroit, Tennessee and Alabama.

Amazon month announced plans to split its second headquarters involving Queens, Long Island City and Virginia. Apple last week announced it would extend its presence in cities including New York City, across the US. Additionally, it revealed plans for a new $1 billion campus at Austin, Texas.
